Version History
v1.52.2
30 July 2026
- New Profile switching now shows a frosted glass overlay so the window arrangement happens cleanly in the background.
v1.52.1
23 July 2026
- Fixed Intel Macs showing "not compatible with your Mac" on launch. Workspaces now ships as a universal binary and runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel.
v1.52.0
21 July 2026
- New Saving a profile now shows a progress window so you can see what's happening.
- New Window positions for apps on an external monitor are now saved correctly when you save a profile.
- New Apps on an external monitor are now moved to the correct position when you restore a profile.
- Fixed Login restore now always uses the profile you've set as your login default, even if you've applied a different profile since.
- Fixed Saving a profile with window positions enabled no longer crashes the app.
- Fixed Window positions are now captured correctly when Stage Manager is active.
- Fixed Window positions are now restored correctly when Stage Manager is active.
v1.51.6
20 July 2026
- Fixed Apps landing on the wrong desktop after login restore. Now fixed.
v1.51.5
20 July 2026
- Fixed Some apps still landed on the wrong desktop after login restore. Now fixed.
v1.51.4
20 July 2026
- Fixed Login restore silently did nothing on every reboot. Now fixed.
- Fixed Some apps landed on the wrong desktop after login restore. Now fixed.
v1.51.3
20 July 2026
- Fixed Some apps landed on the wrong desktop after login restore. Now fixed.
v1.51.2
20 July 2026
- Fixed A keychain permission prompt appeared on first launch after updating from an older version. The app now migrates silently and the prompt will not appear again.
v1.51.1
20 July 2026
- Fixed Login restore now fires reliably on reboot when a default profile is configured — it was previously silently skipped unless you had used the Activate action first.
- Fixed Live restore now opens all closed profile apps. Previously apps were launched one at a time during space-switching with a fixed 2-second window — slow-starting apps missed this and landed on the wrong space.
v1.51.0
19 July 2026
- Fixed The display profile picker was appearing while an external display was already connected, triggered by brightness or resolution changes. It now only fires when a display is actually added or removed.
- Fixed Edge snap (drag a window to a screen edge to snap it) was silently disabled in cursor pin mode — the default layout. Now works in both modes.
v1.50.0
18 July 2026
- New When multiple saved profiles match your display setup, a picker now lets you choose which one to restore.
- New Apps not in the active profile are hidden automatically on restore so they don't clutter your layout.
- Fixed Profile preview showed wrong position icons for windows on an external display — ratios are now calculated against the correct screen.
- Fixed Empty desktops were hidden from the profile preview. They now show a placeholder so the preview matches the real profile structure.
- Fixed Post-restore warning added when extra desktops remain after a restore.
v1.49.0
17 July 2026
- Fixed If you moved an app to a different desktop and ran a restore, Workspaces would skip it if any of its windows were already on the correct desktop. Now the restore checks that all windows are on the right desktop — if any are elsewhere, the app is moved back.
v1.48.0
16 July 2026
- New If macOS is set to automatically reorder Spaces based on recent use, Workspaces now alerts you at launch and shows a red warning in the menu bar. Tapping it disables the setting immediately. When this is on, macOS moves your spaces around automatically, which breaks the restore.
v1.47.0
16 July 2026
- Fixed Apps restored to wrong desktop when spaces had been reordered since the profile was saved. The restore was switching desktops using the profile's saved name, but after reordering the same space may carry a different label in Mission Control. Now resolves the current label via UUID before switching.
v1.46.0
16 July 2026
- Fixed Apps restored to wrong desktop on single-display Macs. The Dock's "Assign To" menu shows "This Desktop" on single displays and "Desktop on Display N" on multi-display setups — Workspaces was only looking for the multi-display variant, so the assignment silently failed and apps stayed where they were.
v1.45.0
16 July 2026
- Changed Improved update checking
v1.44.0
16 July 2026
- Fixed Regression in 1.42.0: apps were restored to the wrong desktop after a restore (e.g. Safari to Desktop 2 instead of 3, Chrome to Desktop 3 instead of 4). Restarting the Dock to toggle auto-rearrange was destabilising Mission Control's thumbnail layout, causing desktop switches during restore to land on the wrong space. Now uses a live preference update instead, which the Dock picks up immediately without a restart.
v1.43.0
16 July 2026
- Fixed "Check for Updates…" sometimes required clicking twice. The menu item now connects directly to Sparkle's updater so the enabled state and the action are always in sync.
v1.42.0
16 July 2026
- Fixed After restoring a profile, switching to an app on a different desktop could cause macOS to reorder all your desktops — apps that were on Desktop 2 would end up on Desktop 3, Desktop 3 on Desktop 4, and so on. Workspaces now temporarily pauses "Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use" during a restore and restores your original setting when done.
v1.41.0
16 July 2026
- Fixed When saving a profile, window positions for apps like Safari, Chrome, and Mail could be captured incorrectly if those apps had windows open on multiple desktops. Positions are now saved correctly for the desktop being snapshotted.
- Changed Snap pins now appear near your cursor by default (compact grid) instead of spread across the screen edges. Easier to reach mid-drag.
- Changed Throw-to-display pins (← →) are now on by default. They stay hidden automatically if you only have one display connected.
v1.40.0
15 July 2026
- Fixed Profile previews sometimes showed no apps at all after saving — spaces appeared but were empty. This has been fixed.
v1.39.0
15 July 2026
- Fixed Saving a profile sometimes resulted in an empty preview with no apps shown. This has been corrected.
v1.38.0
15 July 2026
- Fixed If Workspaces can't see any open app windows when saving a profile, it now shows a clear message.
v1.37.0
15 July 2026
- Fixed Desktop names in the profile preview now match Mission Control correctly after spaces have been rearranged.
v1.36.0
15 July 2026
- Fixed Saving a profile now correctly identifies which space each app is on. Previously, apps could be assigned to the wrong space in the preview and restore.
v1.35.0
15 July 2026
- New Settings → General → Updates: "Install updates automatically" toggle. On by default — updates download in the background and you see a single Install button. Turn off to review each update before downloading.
v1.34.0
15 July 2026
- New Check for updates automatically runs 10 seconds after the Mac wakes from sleep, so long-running installs never miss a release.
v1.33.0
15 July 2026
- New First-launch welcome guide — a short walkthrough appears the first time you open Workspaces, covering the menu bar icon, saving a layout, and restoring. Accessible anytime via menu bar → How it works…
- New Settings → General → Updates — toggle to disable automatic update checks.
- Fixed App now shows a clear error and exits gracefully if launched on macOS 12 or earlier instead of crashing.
v1.32.0
29 June 2026
- Changed When switching profiles, apps not in the new profile are now hidden rather than quit — your unsaved work is preserved and apps stay accessible from the Dock.
- Fixed Saved window positions are now correctly applied to apps that were moved to a new Space during restore.
v1.31.0
1 June 2026
- New Window gaps — a configurable screen-edge margin and inter-window gutter are applied to all snap zones. Toggle on/off in Settings → Window Snap (on by default, 8 px margin / 6 px gap).
- New Stage Manager keyboard shortcut (⌃⌥⌘M) — toggles Stage Manager on and off globally.
- Changed The Stage Manager pin now automatically follows Stage Manager state — turning SM off dims the pin; turning it back on re-enables it.
- Fixed Keyboard shortcut recording completely rewritten — custom shortcuts now capture reliably in all situations including command-modifier combinations.
- Changed All three sections in Window Snap settings are now collapsible, with your expanded/collapsed preferences saved between launches.
v1.30.0
31 May 2026
- New Edge snap — drag a window to within 8 px of any screen edge to snap it without using the pin overlay. Toggle in Window Snap settings.
v1.25.0
29 May 2026
- New Throw to Display pins — drag a window to the left or right screen edge during a drag to throw it to the previous or next display. Enable in Window Snap → Pin groups.
- Changed About Workspaces moved to the top of the menu — standard macOS placement.
- Fixed About panel now always shows the correct installed version.
v1.24.0
29 May 2026
- New Throw to next/previous display via keyboard — ⌃⌥⌘→ and ⌃⌥⌘← move the front window to the next or previous display, preserving its position relative to the screen.
- Changed Restore notification now shows the number of apps and Spaces restored (e.g. "Work restored — 6 apps, 3 spaces").
v1.23.0
29 May 2026
- New Automatic updates — Mac Workspaces now checks for new versions and lets you update from the menu bar.
v1.21.0
29 May 2026
- Changed The snap zone overlay is now a compact screen-map grid — chip positions mirror actual screen regions so the layout is immediately intuitive.
- Fixed Hovering briefly over a chip no longer commits a snap — a short dwell is required, eliminating accidental snaps when moving the cursor across the overlay.
v1.20.0
29 May 2026
- New Cursor grid mode — a compact snap zone panel appears beside the cursor when you start dragging a window. Flick to the zone and release — no need to drag to the screen edge.
v1.19.0
28 May 2026
- New 16 snap zones, including thirds and two-thirds. The overlay now covers the full range of positions with a redesigned glass chip layout.
v1.18.0
28 May 2026
- Fixed Menu bar garbling after a profile restore. Spaces are now properly refreshed so the correct menu bar appears on each desktop.
- Fixed Login items (apps set to Open at Login) are no longer closed when switching profiles.
v1.6.0
19 May 2026
- New Configurable keyboard shortcuts — record any key combination per snap zone. Shortcuts persist across launches.
- New Conflict detection — alerts you if a new shortcut is already in use by another zone.
- New Profiles now save and restore Stage Manager and auto-arrange Spaces state.
v1.3.0
19 May 2026
- New Drag-to-snap pin overlay — frosted-glass chips appear around the screen when you drag a window, snap on release.
- New Login profile — choose which layout restores automatically when you log in.
- Fixed Text selection and resize handles no longer trigger the snap overlay.
v1.0.0
18 May 2026
- New Initial release — save your Space layout as a named profile and restore it with one click. Apps launch on the correct Space, windows land where you left them.
